Bernhard Burkhart Engiro

Bernhard Burkhart

Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Burkhart studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University from 2006 to 2018. He finished his PhD on switched reluctance machine design for range extenders in 2018. At the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives he became group leader in 2014 and chief engineer in 2017. Since June 2018 he has been part of Engiro, first as a project manager for drive systems and currently as head of research and development. Besides the design and development of permanent magnet synchronous machines and complete drivetrains, he contributes to shaping electrification solutions for the mobile machinery of Hydac Group.

Presentation

Electrification kits – fast track to electrify mobile machinery

Almost every sector is pressured with emission reduction goals, up to complete elimination in inner-city applications. Vehicle builders face many challenges in this transition, among which is the choice of the right electric drivetrain. But once the drivetrain concept and size are chosen, the implementation marathon begins on tight budgets. This presentation will give an introduction to the Engiro and Hydac experience, setting up electric drivetrains for mobile machinery in the power range from 10 to 400kW and 48 to 800V. An electrification kit approach will be presented, which can reduce time-to-market tremendously for vehicle manufacturers.
