ABB is showing a number of package solutions for next-generation powertrains at Industrial Vehicle Technology Expo. The first is the HES880 mobile drive, which can be used both as a standalone drive or as part of an electric powertrain. Depending on the installed software, the drive can be operated in one of three modes. Inverter mode can run all motors and restores braking energy, line converter mode charges the batteries from a power network, whereas the DC-DC converter mode transfers energy to and from a battery. ABB’s motors are designed to integrate seamlessly with the HES880 inverter, as they can share a liquid cooling system, making for easy installation.
